As a method of research, <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Action Research <\/span><\/i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">focuses \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">on the conditions and effects of various forms of social action and research leading to social action\u201d and uses \u201ca spiral of steps, each of which is composed of a circle of planning, action and fact-finding about the result of the action\u201d. Experience is an essential part of the action research process. Each group was given a specific set of social organizations in Berlin, ranging from Churches,Shelters, NGO\u2019s etc&#8230; which deal with issues of migration in different ways. Each group was given a list of different places to explore and then return to the larger group to report on their findings the next day. This excecise gave the groups an opportunity to journey together through the city of the day, gain a some practical exposure to the issues we\u2019ve been discussing, as well as discover the easily accesible affordances of this place. Here\u2019s an overview of places visited by the groups:<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Group 1:<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"International Womens Space\" href=\"https:\/\/iwspace.wordpress.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">International Womens Space<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><a title=\"International Womens Space\" href=\"https:\/\/iwspace.wordpress.com\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Kinderbar<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: A cafe designed to bring children and families from different cultural backgrounds to play and socialize<\/span><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a title=\"Gorki Theater (Berliner Herbstsalon and Experience Play)\" href=\"http:\/\/www.gorki.de\/studio-ya\/berliner-herbstsalon-gorki-studio\/\">Gorki- Museum and Experience Play:<\/a> <em>Refugee&#8217;s Library<\/em>\u00a0an exhibit and interactive\u00a0play which focused on the experience of being a refugee in a fictional country where a language nobody understands is spoken.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Group 2<\/b><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/solarev.org\/migration\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2015\/12\/2.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-253\" src=\"https:\/\/solarev.org\/migration\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2015\/12\/2-e1449056633960-225x300.jpg\" alt=\"2\" width=\"225\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/solarev.org\/migration\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2015\/12\/2-e1449056633960-225x300.jpg 225w, https:\/\/solarev.org\/migration\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2015\/12\/2-e1449056633960-768x1024.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 225px) 100vw, 225px\" \/><\/a>Borderline Europe:<\/strong> An Organization which observes humans rights issues on the borders of European union<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Group 3<\/b><\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/solarev.org\/migration\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2015\/12\/church-aylum.gif\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-291\" src=\"https:\/\/solarev.org\/migration\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2015\/12\/church-aylum.gif\" alt=\"church aylum\" width=\"270\" height=\"172\" \/><\/a><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Church Asylum: <\/strong><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The German Ecumenical Committee on Church Asylum (\u00d6kumenische Bundesarbeitsgemeinschaft Asyl in der Kirche) is a network of associations of German protestant, catholic and free church parishes ready to offer church asylum.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong>Emergency Refugee Shelter<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><b>Group 4<\/b><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/solarev.org\/migration\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2015\/12\/reachout.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-304\" src=\"https:\/\/solarev.org\/migration\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2015\/12\/reachout-300x118.png\" alt=\"reachout\" width=\"300\" height=\"118\" srcset=\"https:\/\/solarev.org\/migration\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2015\/12\/reachout-300x118.png 300w, https:\/\/solarev.org\/migration\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/6\/2015\/12\/reachout.png 330w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><b>Kubus<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">: <\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">An organization which actively supports youth and elderly welfare\u00a0<\/span>with a focus on intercultural coexistence of people of different nations and cultures\u00a0through language education and vocational training<\/p>\n<p><b>Reach Out: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">a counselling centre for victims of rightwing extremist, racist or anti-Semitic violence in Berlin.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>Group 5<\/b><\/p>\n<p><b><a title=\"LEGESO\" href=\"http:\/\/www.berlin.de\/lageso\/\">LeGeSo<\/a>:\u00a0<\/b>LEGESO was in the past the State Department of Health and Welfare in Berlin Settled medical book stock was the central point for the German military medical records from both World Wars.\u00a0Today the offices are completely working in supporting migrants, ensuring all the administrative tasks for their conditions of life, to allow them to live or to work in Germany<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><a title=\"MOABIT HILFT\" href=\"http:\/\/moabit-hilft.com\/\">MOABIT HILFT<\/a>:\u00a0Working with refugees who are\u00a0<\/span>often traumatized, speak little or no German language. MOABIT HILFT gathers\u00a0a group of local residents, institutions, associations and businesses\u00a0from Moabit to contribute to helping these new residents.<\/p>\n<p>Each group had it\u2019s own experiences (which will be further discussed in the next days blog), but it is safe to say that this research method can be and efficient way to organize a research project, espescially in a short period of time. It is quite beneficial as a group activity considering that it can serve many purposes in a simple structure, allow research questions to be experiences in the context of the local community, as well as facilitate group\u00a0socialisation\u00a0and team\u00a0building. Furthermore, many\u00a0could imagine using this particular 1-day exercise in <em>Action Research<\/em> in as good way to introduce research methods for those learning how to do research.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Action Research The Second half of the day focused on The Action Research Method.
